If mice are in the property right now, proofing is not what to book first — treat, then proof.
With most pests, proofing is a sensible extra. With mice it is closer to being the actual solution, and the reason is size.
A house mouse gets through a gap that looks far too small to matter. If a pencil fits, a mouse generally gets through — and gaps that small are everywhere in an ordinary building. Around the waste pipe under the sink. Where the gas pipe enters. Behind the boiler. Under the garage door. At the meter box.
Nobody notices them because there is no reason to, until something is using them.
Treat a property and you remove the mice that are there. Proof it and you remove the reason there were mice there at all. With mice, skipping the second usually means doing the first again.

Sealing a building with mice inside does not remove them. It shuts them in, and a trapped mouse gnaws — in a kitchen or under a floor that frequently means cabling.
