In a flat the honest answer is usually yes, or nearly. Here is how to work it out rather than guess — and why the hallway matters more than you would think.
In a flat, usually most of them. A flat is a small connected space and an animal moves through all of it, so the population distributes more evenly than in a house.
Follow the animal, not the bites. Bites map where you sit still, which is not necessarily where the fleas are breeding.
The instinct is to treat the rooms where you have been bitten. It produces the wrong answer.
Adult fleas emerge from the carpet when they detect a host. You get bitten where you sit still long enough for them to find you — the sofa, the bed. That tells you where fleas hatched near, not where the population is concentrated.
Bites map where you sit. Eggs map where the animal sleeps. Treat the second.
Be honest rather than optimistic. A cat that is 'not allowed in the bedroom' frequently is.
This is the difference from a house, and it is worth understanding.
A house has upstairs and downstairs, rooms the animal rarely enters, and enough distance that a flea problem can genuinely be concentrated in two rooms. A flat is one floor, small, and connected by a hallway the animal crosses dozens of times a day.
So the room count in a flat tends to be most of the flat — which sounds expensive until you look at the additional-room rate.
A two-bedroom flat with a living room and carpeted hall is four rooms: £360. Treated one at a time it would be £720.

View Flea Control Wealdstone →The most commonly forgotten room in a flat, and frequently one of the most important.
A hallway in a flat is not a room people spend time in, so it gets left off the count. But the animal crosses it constantly, and every crossing drops eggs. A treated bedroom and living room with an untreated hallway between them is a treated property with a reservoir in the middle.
Put on long white socks, pull them up, and walk slowly around the room for a few minutes — especially over the pet's resting spots. Fleas jump toward movement and warmth and show clearly against white.
Tiny black specks in the carpet where the animal rests. Put some on damp white kitchen paper — if it smears reddish-brown, that is flea dirt, and it confirms activity in that room.
Many flats here have laminate or engineered flooring throughout. That reduces the habitat but does not remove it:
In a hard-floored flat, the rooms that matter are wherever there is a rug, a pet bed or upholstered furniture.
| Approach | Cost | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 4 rooms together | £360 | One visit, done |
| 2 rooms now, 2 in a month | £240 + £240 = £480 | Two visits, £120 more, reinfestation between |
| 4 rooms one at a time | £720 | Four visits, and the problem outruns you |
If you have no animal — common after a change of tenant — the room logic changes. Look at:
Rarely. Hard-floored, and animals do not usually rest there.
No — outdoors, and fleas do not persist there in the same way.

Usually yes, and it is the most commonly forgotten room. The animal crosses it constantly.
Where the pet uses them, yes — larvae shelter in board gaps, at skirting edges, under rugs and in sofas.
Walk it slowly in long white socks, or look for flea dirt that smears reddish-brown on damp white paper.
Typically three or four rooms — £300 to £360.
